The Botanic Garden at Independence Park was created in 1991 and is dedicated to horticultural education, recreation and nature studies. It is still a work in progress. Botanic Garden Foundation, a volunteer organization working in partnership, are adopting an evolving Master Development Plan for the Botanic Garden. The Botanic Garden is being constructed in phases as funds become available. Volunteers do much of the work in planting and maintaining the specialty gardens while BREC employs a landscape crew that maintain the grounds. History of the Land: Independence Park originally was a part of the Goodwood Plantation, purchased in 1931 by East Baton Rouge Parish and used as an airport. The downtown Airport, as it was known, operated for 44 years and closed in 1975. The City Parish Council designated a part of the original 200-acre airport site to BREC for a public park. Independence Park was developed following BREC’s Master Plan and dedicated in 1976. In 1988 Baton Rouge Green raised funds to revise this plan to include a 15-acre site for a proposed botanic garden.

Why is Science Central important to the Fort Wayne community? Sure, it’s a fun place to bring the kids when the weather is rotten. But at its core, Science Central is much, much more than just a place to play. Science Central is a catalyst for learning, and it’s a catalyst for learning the most important subjects that employers will need our kids to know to perform work in the future – science, technology, engineering and math, or as they are commonly called, STEM. Careers in STEM are among the fastest growing fields in the nation. However, the United States is trailing behind the rest of the world when it comes to preparing students for success in these fields. Welcome!

Founded in 1841, Woodland Cemetery is one of the nation's five oldest rural garden cemeteries and a unique cultural, botanical and educational resource in the heart of Dayton, Ohio. From Woodland's Lookout Point - the highest point in the city - Dayton's skyline far surpasses the dreams of John Van Cleve, one of the city's important leaders and Woodland's founder. By the 1840s, Dayton was outgrowing its original cemetery at Third and Main Streets. Dayton's pioneer families faced the problem. The village was growing and a larger, more suitable cemetery was needed, preferably on some of the beautiful wooded and rolling land with which Dayton was surrounded. Selecting from thousands of available acres, the original trustees, led by John Van Cleve, chose 40 acres remarkable for their hilltop views and their wide variety of trees. Opening in 1843, it was for that natural beauty that they chose to call it "Woodland."

I love our airport! It is very easy to navigate. The employees are pleasant. And I was in awe to see the Clocks Of The World there! I had not seen it in years. It stood for over 50 years at the former Midtown Plaza. But I digress. Did I say I love our airport? Oh yeah I did! You have to see it to believe it!
